Uninsured and Underinsured Motorist coverage um/uim

One the most important things I have learned in my experience as an insurance agent is that explaining coverages is very important most clients do not have knowledge of what coverages mean or what they cover.  For example one of the  coverages I find most that is not understandable to many is UM/UIM. I have found that many clients think that if they purchase UM/UIM coverage it will cover their vehicle in case of an accident. A good selling tool when trying to offer UM/UIM is let the client know that this is one coverage that they can purchase to protect their bodily injury unlike liability is a coverage that is required by the state and is coverage that only covers bodily injury and property damage for the other person.

Also I have learned to be very careful when someone says they want full coverage, when you start asking about Medical, Glass, Rental, Towing etc. they assume all this is automatically included. They do not understand these coverages are optional for an additional premium. So by not offering or explaining this to them and a claim arises they assume they have coverage.
